The Austrian National Committee of Geosciences is the umbrella organisation of all Austrian geoscientific institutions, including the  responsible ministry. It represents the interests of the geoscientific community nationally and internationally, especially  at the IUGS (International Union of Geosciences). The president of the ÖNKG is getting elected from the group of its members. Theoffice is located at the Geological Survey of Austria, the secretary is the  director of the survey. The Austrian National Committee of Geosciences was founded in 1961;  it holds  meetings twice a year in spring and autumn.
