WFS
OpenGIS® Web Features Service Interface Standard (WFS) provides an interface allowing requests for geographical features across the web using platform-independent calls.
REST
REST API Map Service resource provides basic information about the map, including the layers, spatial reference, initial and full extents, map units, metadata, and copyright text.
Integration of a WMS-Services in ArcGIS
For the use of ImageServices you need ArcGIS Version 10.0 or higher.
Open Arc Catalog, navigate to ArcGIS Servers and doüble-click "Add WMS Server". Type in the URL gisgba.geologie.ac.at/ArcGIS/services/karten_image/is_md_gk50/ImageServer/WMSServer
Click "Get Layers" and "OK".
In ArcMap add Services with the "Add Data"-Button.
