Graphite mineral deposit exploration
2017
Exploration strategies integrating geophysical methods such as geoelectrical surveys will be tested at well-know graphite bodies. In combination with ore deposit investigations and geochemical studies the geophysical survey techniques will be optimized. The aim is to develop a sensitive general scheme for graphite exploration for this target type at depth and under cover.

Graphite deposits of the "Bunte Serie" (Weinberg/Amstall und Zettlitz) are regarded as potential sources for future graphite supply. In order to test the possibilities for delineating the location and size of remaining graphite bodies, several geophysical methods will be optimized for the target (resistivity, self-potential, IP time and frequency domain). This will be carried out in conjunction with ore deposit investigations based on archive material and field investigations. Testing will be done along selected profile lines and accompanied by studies investigating the potential of geochemical indicators in the ore hosting rocks, stream sediments and soil samples. The aim is to identify the optimal methods to discover graphite deposits under limited cover or down-dip extensions of existing deposits since these settings represent the most important exploration targets.
