Hard Rock Geology

Hard Rock Geology deals with the structure and geological history of areas whose bedrock is composed of crystalline stones (for example granite, basalt, mica schist, gneiss).

Models are created from the results of field work and the supportive basic research on how the orogeny may have developed in space and time.

Rearch is focused on how and when rock bodies have been created: Whether from melts (igneous), the transformation products formed under elevated pressure and temperature of igneous rocks (metamorphic), their weathering material (sediments of sandy and clayey composition) or from chemical sediments (eg carbonates). As a result of burial and recrystallization gneiss, mica schist, marble and so on arise. Methods of microscopy, structural geology, chemistry and geochronology are used for examination.
