Thermal- and Mineral Waters in Austria

Austria’s sources of thermal and mineral water have been known for centuries thanks to their particular smell, taste, temperature and therapeutic effects.

The springs were given popular names such as thermal, acidic, acerbic, saline, sulfurous or even poisonous spring.

Today, the springs are used not only for drinking water but also for medicinal purposes and for general wellness.

Image of Geology

That the waters are a reflection of the regional geology, for example, shows the presence of so-called "Haselgebirge" (salt and gypsum deposits of the leading Permian) in the Northern Limestone Alps. These correlate with highly saline mineral waters (brine water). Due to the complex geological structure of Austria, you can find a wide variety of thermal and mineral waters on a small area depending on the local geological conditions.
